Spending her childhood and teen years in China, Ivy Chen Lic.Ac. was familiar with Traditional Chinese Medicine but never experienced it in a way that would propel her to seek out the role of a practitioner. That came once she and her family settled in the United States. One day, her first born child became ill and she took him to the pediatrician who prescribed tylenol to manage the symptoms of the fever then sent them home. Ivy was frustrated. What about treating the root cause of the fever? Tylenol was a pacifier. It would not address what was causing this imbalance in her son. It was only then, as a mother battling for the health of her child, that she began to research Eastern medicine and discovered its ability to treat the root causes of disease, not just the symptoms.
Her 4 years at MCPHS University earned her a dual Masters degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MAOM). After passing 5 National,
3rd party certified medical boards, Chen earned her position as a Board of Registration in Medicine (BORIM) licensed Acupuncturist and Herbal Medicine practitioner- a distinction that allows Chen to prescribe personalized (custom) Herbal Medicine formulas based on each patient’s pulse quality and tongue condition, diagnostic tools used for 3,500 years. As an Eastern Medicine practitioner, Ivy Chen is able to resolve dis-ease, thereby restoring balance and harmony to her patients health and wellbeing.
